EXTREMELY FINE. A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT TYPE III, WHICH CLEARLY SHOWS THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TYPE.
Perforated 1c Type III stamps usually come from Plate 4. Only a few positions on Plate 12 developed broken lines at top and bottom as a result of plate wear. This stamp, with the relief dot at the left of the oval, definitely comes from Plate 12, but we are unable to plate it precisely.
