Sale 840, Lot 143, General Issues Off-Cover (No. 1)5c Green, Stone 1 (1). Block of 50 from the bottom half of right pane of the "Ackerman" sheet of 200, huge sheet margins at bottom and right, full to large at top and left, original gum with patches of ungummed areas on six stamps, rich color and bright paper, creases and small faults as is to be expected

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF THE LAST SURVIVING BLOCKS OF 50 OF CONFEDERATE STATES "NUMBER ONE". A MAGNIFICENT EXHIBITION ITEM.

As noted in the description of the unique pane of 100 (lot ???), the complete sheet of 200 that belonged to Sen. Ernest Ackerman was divided into left and right panes, and the right pane was further divided into two blocks of 50, each representing the 50-subject lithographic transfer stone that was repeated four times on the printing stone of 200. We are not currently certain of the survival of the upper half that adjoined this block of 50.

Ex Ackerman and Knapp. Scott value for blocks and pairs is $18,500.00
