Carmel S.C. Oct. 7" circular datestamp on 1862 cover to Gen. James Johnston Pettigrew at Petersburg Va., light gum toning along edges, small backflap tear, Very Fine, a nice example of this elusive plate variety on cover to a prominent Confederate general, with 2010 C.S.A. certificate, Gen. Pettigrew commanded a division to the left of George Pickett during Gettysburg's "Pickett's Charge", during the retreat from Gettysburg he was killed by a Union cavalryman at Falling Waters
