Three things to keep in mind when looking at the above results (unsolds are not included):

  1. It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
  2. When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
  3. At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

Sale Number 978, Lot Number 1139, Officials1c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O94), 1c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O94)1c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O94). Bottom right corner margin single, without gum as issued, intense color, perfect centering with Jumbo margins

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT POSITION PIECE OF THE ONE-CENT AGRICULTURE ON SOFT PAPER, GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E -- THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE. THIS STAMP IS MOST LIKELY THE FINEST EXAMPLE IN EXISTENCE.

As discerning collectors know, the Officials can be extremely difficult to obtain in sound, centered condition -- particularly among the American printings on soft porous paper. The example offered here, with sheet margin on two sides and with Jumbo margins, is truly extraordinary.

1994 P.F. certificate no longer accompanies. P.S.E. encapsulated (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $18,900.00 as 98). This is the only example to be awarded this exalted grade in the P.S.E. Population Report. The next closest grade is a 90.

Sale Number 1166, Lot Number 1244, Officials1c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O94), 1c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O94)1c Agriculture, Soft Paper (O94). Without gum as issued, vibrant color, choice centering with well-proportioned margins

EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 1879 ONE-CENT AGRICULTURE AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY PRINTING ON SOFT PAPER.

As discerning collectors know, the Officials can be extremely difficult to obtain in sound, centered condition. This is especially true of the American printings on soft porous papers, which are prone to faults.

With 2016 P.F. and 2017 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90; SMQ $9,000.00). Only one has graded higher (at 98J) and one other shares this grade.

VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT AGRICULTURE ON SOFT PAPER.

As discerning collectors know, the Officials are extremely difficult to obtain in sound, centered condition -- particularly among the American printings on soft porous paper. The example offered here is fresh with choice centering, despite the inexplicably low P.S.E. grade.

With 2016 P.S.E. certificate (F-VF 75; SMQ $3,900.00)
