It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. SOUND EXAMPLES OF THE 1868 2-CENT F GRILL ARE RARELY SEEN WITH THIS COMBINATION OF COLORED CANCEL AND BALANCED JUMBO MARGINS.
With 2004 P.F. and 2010 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $4,350.00). Only three grade higher (at 98) and one other shares this desirable grade, also with a blue cancel. Two of the three higher have black cancels (we are unaware of what the third looks like)

Gorgeous centering with Jumbo margins, detailed impression nicely complemented by blue quartered cork cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp, with 2010 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,900.00 as 95, $5,500.00 as 98), only two have graded higher (at 98) and only one other shares this grade
2c Black, F. Grill (93). Gorgeous centering with Jumbo margins, detailed impression nicely complemented by blue quartered cork cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp, with 2010 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $950.00 as 95, $3,000.00 as 98), only one has graded higher to date and only one other shares this grade
2c Black, F. Grill (93). Precise centering, face-free cork cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2012 P.F. and 2013 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $3,000.00), only five have graded higher
2c Black, F. Grill, Very Thin Paper (93 var). Choice centering with wide margins, crisp impression, cork cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2010 P.F. certificate mentioning the Thin Paper variety, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate which does not mention it (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $1,000.00 as normal)
2c Black, F. Grill (93). Beautifully centered with well-balanced margins, sharply-defined grill points, perfectly-struck blue crossroads cancellation
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 2-CENT F GRILL WITH A PERFECT STRIKE OF A COLORED CANCEL. THIS STAMP HAS THE GREATEST EYE APPEAL OF ANY EXAMPLE OF THIS ISSUE WE HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. A TRULY SPECIAL STAMP.
Ex Ishikawa and Twigg-Smith. With 1988 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $1,000.00). Only three have graded higher to date. In our opinion SMQ does not adequately account for the very desirable cancel on this stamp.
2c Black, F. Grill (93). Almost perfectly centered with Jumbo margins, crisp impression, clearly-struck "Paid All" handstamp, Extremely Fine Gem, this issue is exceedingly difficult to find with the attributes of the example offered here -- wide margins, perfect centering, impression and a "Paid All" cancel -- with 2004 P.F. certificate and 2004 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 -- in our opinion, this stamp meets all of the requirements for a Superb 98)
2c Black, F. Grill (93). Jumbo margins, fresh paper beautifully contrasted by red cork cancel, Extremely Fine, wonderful eye appeal, ex Koppersmith, with 2002 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90 Jumbo; SMQ $215.00 as 90, $1,000.00 as 95)
