Three things to keep in mind when looking at the above results (unsolds are not included):

  1. It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
  2. When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
  3. At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

Sale 1111, Lot 307, 1908-10 Washington-Franklin Coils (Scott 348-356)4c Orange Brown, Coil (354). Mint N.H. guide line pair, deep rich color, attractive margins and centering on post-office fresh paper

VERY FINE MINT NEVER-HINGED GUIDE LINE PAIR OF THE 4-CENT 1909 HORIZONTAL COIL, SCOTT 354.

With 2004 P.F. and 2013 P.S.E. certificates (F-VF 75; SMQ $2,000.00). This is an exceedingly difficult coil line pair to find in Mint N.H. condition with decent centering. Only three Mint N.H. line pairs have achieved a higher grade from P.S.E. (one each at 80, 85 and 90). Among all the 1908-09 double-line watermarked coils, only the 2c Scott 353 has as low a population of centered Mint N.H. line pairs in the P.S.E. Population report (excluding the rare 10c, Scott 356)
