Three things to keep in mind when looking at the above results (unsolds are not included):

  1. It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
  2. When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
  3. At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

Enormous Jumbo margins and perfectly centered, deep rich color, circular datestamp cancels, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2012 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $550.00), this is the highest grade on record and only this stamp has achieved it, the next highest listed in the P.S.E. Sale 1032, Lot 3464, 1908-12 Washington-Franklin Issues (Scott 331-365)5c Blue (335). Almost perfect centering, deep rich color, very lightly cancelled, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2011 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $150.00), this is the highest grade awarded and only one other has achieved this grade, despite the rather modest SMQ value this issue is exceedingly difficult to find in superb used condition, it is the only value in the 1908-09 Double-Line Watermarked Issue other than the $1.00 that is not reported in the P.S.E. Population Report with at least a 95J grade, and in fact, all the other values except the $1.00 and the 6c have at least a 98 grade reported
