Three things to keep in mind when looking at the above results (unsolds are not included):

  1. It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
  2. When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
  3. At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

This information is provided for hobbyists and is not intended to represent philatelic material as an investment or financial instrument. Past performance is neither an indication nor guarantee of future performance. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information, but Siegel Auction Galleries (including its representatives and affiliates) is not liable for errors or omissions of any kind. Sale Number 1199, Lot Number 1086, 5c-30c 1857-60 Issue (Scott 27-38)10c Green, Ty. III (33), 10c Green, Ty. III (33)10c Green, Ty. III (33). Perfectly centered with wide and well-balanced margins, deep rich color, long and full perforations all around, face-free strike of circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST USED EXAMPLES OF THE 1857 PERFORATED 10-CENT TYPE III IN EXISTENCE. THIS STUNNING STAMP IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE AWARDED THE GRADE OF SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.

The first perforated 10c stamps produced by Toppan Carpenter from sheets printed from Plate 1 are notorious among collectors for their poor centering. The example offered here, with unusually wide margins on all sides, bright color, a face-free cancel and in pristine condition, is the finest we have ever encountered.

Ex "Natalee Grace". With 1999 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $12,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and the only example to achieve this grade.

Sale Number 1034, Lot Number 61, 1857-60 Issue and 1875 Reprint (Scott 18-47)10c Green, Ty. III (33), 10c Green, Ty. III (33)10c Green, Ty. III (33). Gorgeous color, with part of selvage at left, neat strike of circular datestamp, beautiful centering with wide margins for this difficult issue

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 10-CENT TYPE III, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY P.S.E. THIS IS ALSO EXCEEDINGLY RARE WITH THE SELVAGE.

The first perforated 10c stamps produced by Toppan Carpenter from sheets printed from Plate 1 are notorious among collectors for their poor centering. The example offered here, with such beautiful centering and with selvage, is a remarkable rarity. A review using Power Search found only one other with selvage (on a cover).

With 2000 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,950.00 as 95, $7,500.00 as 98). Only one has graded higher (at 98, offered in our recent Natalee Grace sale) and one other shares this grade.
