Three things to keep in mind when looking at the above results (unsolds are not included):

  1. It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
  2. When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
  3. At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

Sale 1150, Lot 994, 1907 Jamestown Issue (Scott 328-330)2c Jamestown (329). Mint N.H., radiant color as fresh as the day it was printed on post-office fresh paper, mathematically perfect centering with unusually wide margins for this difficult issue

EXTREMELY FINE GEM AND THE ESSENCE OF PERFECTION -- THIS REMARKABLE STAMP IS GRADED GEM 100 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS PERFECT GRADE.

The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree. High grades are extremely difficult to obtain on this issue in any denomination. For example, only one 1c has graded 98J and none have graded 100. This is the only example of the 2c graded 100. For the 5c, the 98J offered in the following lot is the highest grade with no equals.

With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100; SMQ $4,600.00 is irrelevant, it last sold for $18,500 hammer in 2008). Accompanied by note from former master grader William Litle which states "The first ever Jamestown to get 100 and N.H. at that." This is still the only Jamestown to get a 100 grade in any condition (used, OG or NH). Scott Retail $75.00

Sale 958, Lot 656, Louisiana Purchase and Jamestown Issues2c Jamestown (329). Mint N.H., radiant color as fresh as the day it was printed on post-office fresh paper, mathematically perfect centering with unusually wide margins for this difficult issue

EXTREMELY FINE GEM AND THE ESSENCE OF PERFECTION -- THIS REMARKABLE STAMP HAS BEEN GRADED GEM 100 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE AND THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS PERFECT GRADE.

The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree. The sheets offered in lot 655 are an excellent demonstration of this. High grades are extremely difficult to obtain on this issue in any denomination. For example, only four examples of the 1c have graded higher than a 95 to date, and no examples of the 5c have graded higher than a 95 to date. Only three other examples of the 2c have graded higher than a 95 to date. This is the only Jamestown issue to achieve the grade of Gem 100.

With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $3,550.00 as 98). Accompanied by note from master grader William Litle which states "The first ever Jamestown to get 100 and N.H. at that."

Sale 1034, Lot 315, Louisiana Purchase and Jamestown Issues (Scott 323-330)2c Jamestown (329). Mint N.H., Jumbo margins of a size almost unheard of for this issue, choice centering, brilliant color on bright paper

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT JAMESTOWN, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- ONLY ONE HAS GRADED HIGHER AND NO OTHERS SHARE THIS GRADE.

The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree and nearly all to lack anything approaching Jumbo margins. Only one stamp among all three denominations has been graded 100, and this is one of only three in any condition throughout the set to achieve a 98J grade (others are Mint N.H. 1c and 5c).

With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $2,500.00 as 98)

The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree. With 2016 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $4,750.00). EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT JAMESTOWN, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- ONLY TWO HAVE GRADED HIGHER TO DATE AND ONLY ONE OTHER SHARES THIS LOFTY GRADE.

The Jamestown Issue is notorious for its tight spacing and narrow margins, which causes most copies to be off-center to some degree. For example, only five examples of the 1c have graded higher than a 95 to date, and one example of the 5c has graded higher than a 95.
