Three things to keep in mind when looking at the above results (unsolds are not included):
It is important to look at the individual data points listed below. Price swings up may be due to varieties such as broken hat or other positives such as cancels. Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, barely hinged (appears Mint N.H. without close examination), with top plate no. 620 selvage, deep shade and detailed impression, wide margins and mathematically perfect centering
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT TRANS-MISSISSIPPI ISSUE TO RECEIVE THE PERFECT GRADE OF GEM 100 FROM P.S.E. A SUPERB STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT.
A review of the P.S.E. Population Report shows how rare the Trans-Mississippi Issue is in the grade of Gem 100, especially among the higher denominations. Above the 8c value, only this 10c and a single hinged $1.00 have achieved the perfect Gem 100 grade (there is also one used $1.00 graded 100J).
With 2017 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, Gem 100; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98). This is the highest grade awarded and is shared by no others in any condition (used, hinged or Mint N.H.)
10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, lightly hinged, deep shade and detailed impression, wide and balanced margins, Extremely Fine Gem, with 1991 P.F. and 2006 and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, Superb 98; SMQ $1,050.00), only one has graded higher and two others share this grade
10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, lightly hinged, essentially perfect centering with wide margins, rich color and proof-like impression, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp and exceedingly difficult to find in this condition, with 1991 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, Superb 98; SMQ $1,050.00), this is the highest grade awarded to the 10c Trans-Mississippi in any condition, and it is shared by one other hinged, seven Mint N.H. and three used -- the 50c and $2.00 values also lack a stamp graded higher than 98
10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, lightly hinged, wide and balanced margins with exceptional centering, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2010 P.F. (XF-Superb 95) and 2004 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $475.00)
10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, lightly hinged, detailed impression, choice centering, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2004 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $475.00), only four have graded higher

10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, barest trace of hinging, appears Mint N.H., superbly centered, strong color and clear impression, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2004 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $500.00)

(as Mint N.H.) and 2011 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, XF 90; SMQ $275.00)
10c Trans-Mississippi (290). Original gum, lightly hinged, uncharacteristically wide margins and choice centering, intense color and fine impression, Extremely Fine, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $380.00)
