Price swings down may be due to factors such as faults on items that would have graded higher if they were sound, and may not be considered as desirable as a sound copy in this grade.
When looking at multiple grades on the graph, grades with the same population numbers may show overlapping.
At the time of an auction, the SMQ value has already been published and is available to bidders. Increases or decreases in SMQ value prior to the auction may affect the price realized.

15c Columbian (238). Original gum, barely hinged (appears Mint N.H.), incredibly wide balanced Jumbo margins and perfectly centered
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. CERTAINLY ONE OF THE WIDEST-MARGINED AND BEST-CENTERED ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES OF THE 15-CENT COLUMBIAN ISSUE EXTANT.
With 1987 P.F. (stating that it is genuine which implies Mint N.H.) and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $1,600.00 as 98). This is the highest grade awarded in any category (one Mint N.H. and one used share this grade) and it is the only hinged copy to attain this grade.
15c Columbian (238). Original gum, barely hinged (appears Mint N.H.), incredibly wide balanced Jumbo margins and perfectly centered, Extremely Fine Gem, certainly one of the widest-margined, centered original-gum examples of this stamp extant, with 1987 P.F. (stating that it is genuine which implies Mint N.H. ) and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo, the only example to receive this grade; SMQ $1,400.00 as 98)
15c Columbian (238). Original gum, lightly hinged, wide almost mathematically balanced margins, beautiful fresh color on bright paper, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp, with 1988 P.F. and 2011 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, Superb 98; SMQ $1,600.00), only one hinged stamp has graded higher to date, and only two have graded higher in any condition (both 98J)
15c Columbian (238). Original gum, lightly hinged, intense shade and impression, choice centering with wide and balanced margins, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2016 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $950.00), only six have graded higher and one other shares this grade
