Long folded letter datelined "Mocha (famous for Coffee), October 28th, 1837" and addressed to Taunton, England, red "Opened and resealed, Lazaretto Malta" wax seal which was broken when opened, light but legible greenish "Malta F" handstamp of Falmouth, rated "2/6" due, Very Fine, a very early letter originating in modern-day Yemen, carried privately to Malta where it entered mails to England, letter with interesting contents regarding travels via Suez, Jeddah where he states "we went on shore & received attention from Mr. Ogilvie, an agent of Waghorn's", and their onwards journey by steamer to Bombay

Sale 1287, Lot 1193, YemenYEMEN, 1926, 2-1/2b First Issue Offset Printed on Blotting Paper (1-2 var). Large to ample margins, very light but clear offset impression of the 2-1/2b, smudged by clear Menakha intaglio seal cancel, Very Fine and quite possibly unique example used, it is theorized that this was a piece of blotting paper placed between printed sheets as interleaving and took ink from printed pane while drying and mistakenly placed for use

Sale 1287, Lot 1195, YemenYEMEN, 1926, 2-1/2b Black on Orange, 5b Black (2-3). 2-1/2b with large sheet margin at right, both cancelled by clear strike of Sana'a negative intaglio seal cancel on large orange registered cover to Trieste, used in transit with Eritrea, 1916 50c Violet and 1922 25c on 2-1/2a Blue (43, 62; Sassone 39, 58), vertical strip of three of the 50c, tied by "Massaua, Eritrea, 20 3 28" double-circle registered datestamps with additional strike below (one also ties Yemen 5b), "Raccomandata" handstamp and Massaua registry label, Naples transit and Trieste arrival backstamps

VERY FINE AND TRULY SPECTACULAR DUAL-COUNTRY USE WITH TWO YEMEN FIRST ISSUE STAMPS AND ITALIAN ERITREA ISSUES ON REGISTERED COVER TO TRIESTE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED COMBINATION COVER OF ITS KIND.

Sale 1287, Lot 1196, YemenYEMEN, 1963, 10b Black & Carmine, Royalist Civil War Issue (SG R38a). Mint N.H. bottom left corner selvage block of fifteen, wonderfully fresh color on bright paper

VERY FINE. A REMARKABLE BLOCK OF THE 1963 ROYAL CIVIL WAR 10-BOGACHES OVERPRINTED CONSULAR FEE STAMP USED FOR POSTAGE. ONLY 50 WERE PRINTED.

The Consular Fee stamp was overprinted "Yemen" in English and "Postage 1383" in Arabic. Considering only 50 were printed in Carmine, this block comprises 30% of the examples.
