VERY FINE AND RARE USE OF THE "PAKISTAN" OVERPRINTS IN MUSCAT WHICH WERE ONLY VALID FOR A THREE MONTH PERIOD.
The Muscat Postal Administration came under control of the Government of Pakistan following the partition of India in August 1947. In response, India stamps which were previously used were replaced by those with the "Pakistan" overprints. All values of the Nasik overprinted stamps were placed for sale on Dec. 29, 1947 and were used until Mar. 31, 1948. Their use was invalidated on Apr. 1, 1948. Despite a period of use for three months, covers are very scarce.
Illustrated in Donaldson (p. 34). Ex Donaldson and Parsons.

VERY FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE USE OF THE HANDSTAMPED "PAKISTAN" OVERPRINT USED IN MUSCAT, WHICH WAS ON SALE FOR ONLY NINE DAYS AND IN USE FOR THREE MONTHS. DONALDSON STATES "LESS THAN SIX COVERS" ARE KNOWN.
The Muscat Postal Administration came under control of the Government of Pakistan following the partition of India in August 1947. In response, India stamps which were previously used were replaced by those with the "Pakistan" overprints. It wasn't until Dec. 29, 1947 that stocks of the Nasik overprinted stamps were received and placed for sale. Thus current stocks of the India stamps were used and overprinted locally with a "Pakistan" overprint. They were sold until the officially overprinted stocks arrived so were on sale for a period of only nine days. They remained valid until Mar. 31, 1948 when they invalidated on Apr. 1, 1948. According to Donaldson, less than six covers are thought to exist.
Illustrated in Donaldson (p. 36). Ex Donaldson and Parsons. With 1972 B.P.A. certificate.
