Sale 1280, Lot 645, Balance LotsImportant Balance of the Magnolia Collection of Covers from French Post Office in Yokohama. 42 covers plus one front (43 items total), a wonderful range of frankings and usage spanning a decade from 1869 to 1878, including well-known commercial and military correspondences (Bolmida, Chevrier, Duplay Balay, Fauconnet, Henon, Micheaux, Munier, Ozier, Peyre and others), British and French Packet rates including 12c (printed matter), 40c, 80c, 100c, 110c and 120c (some double rates) paid with multicolor combinations, strips and blocks, mixed issues (including 30c Ceres Large Numerals), markings include "Yokohama Bau Francais" (several in blue), "Yokohama Japon", "Yokohama Paq. Fr. S No. 1", "Ligne N Paq. Fr. No. 1", although minor faults are to be expected, overall Fine with many Very Fine covers, several ex Matsumoto and most sourced from auctions in France--the magnitude of the Magnolia collection makes this balance lot far more comprehensive and valuable than one would ordinarily encounter, worth careful examination (a complete scan of contents in PDF form will assist bidders who cannot view the actual lot)

Sale 1280, Lot 646, Balance LotsImportant Balance of the Magnolia Collection of Covers from France to Japan. 29 covers and one front (30 items total), a wonderful range of frankings and usage spanning nearly 20 years from 1867 to 1884, including well-known commercial and military correspondences (Chamberlain, Eccard & Raud, Fauconnet, Lebon, Maussenet, Ozier, Pignatel, Real, Thorel and others), British and French Packet rates including 100c, 120c and 130c (some double rates) paid with multicolor combinations, strips and blocks, mixed issues, includes three to military personnel with single 25c frankings (1871-73), a few later including front with 1fr and 10c Sage Issue, April 1880 cover after closing of French P.O. with Japanese Yokohama and Hiogo receiving datestamps, three stampless covers (one carried outside the mails, two with due markings), although minor faults are to be expected, overall Fine with many Very Fine covers, several ex Matsumoto and most sourced from auctions in France--the magnitude of the Magnolia collection makes this balance lot far more comprehensive and valuable than one would ordinarily encounter, worth careful examination (a complete scan of contents in PDF form will assist bidders who cannot view the actual lot)

Small group of nine covers or postal cards, 1866-1897 except for one Russo-Japanese War cover, includes three stampless--1866 Bremen (Thurn & Taxis) to Yokohama, 1866 Amsterdam to Yokohama, 1868 Hamburg to Nagasaki (via Shanghai with French Office backstamp)--1867 India used in Burma on cover from Rangoon to Yokohama, 1883 German postal card to Hong Kong and forwarded to Nagasaki (receiving datestamp), 1888 Great Britain postal card to Nagasaki with forwarding slips, 1896 to Yokohama and forwarded to Chefoo (Shanghai Local Post backstamp), and 1897 German P.O. in Tientsin to Nagasaki via Shanghai I.J.P.O., some minor faults, but overall Fine and attractive
