URUGUAY, 1856, 80c Green (2). Complete plate reconstruction of each of the 35 positions, different shades from Light to Dark Green, Position 20 with sheet margin at right and Position 35 with corner sheet margin, Positions 27-29 showing the "big crack" in the plate (most easily seen on Position 28), plus the various other small hairline flaws which distinguish the positions of the three first "Diligencia values", typical plating flaws to be expected such as lightened pen cancels and thins but not detractingFINE APPEARANCE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE COMPLETE PLATE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE 80-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE. IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY MORE THAN TWO OR THREE RECONSTRUCTIONS EXIST.
It is worth noting that secondary transfer characteristics indicate that new stones of the 80c and 1r were created from transfers of the 60c. Accompanied by three certificates.

URUGUAY, 1856, 80c Green (2). Position 9, ample margin at top, right full with double frame line, just touching design at bottom left and at bottom, affixed to folded letter datelined Buenos Aires November 2, 1856, and addressed to Perdido, manuscript "para dejar en el puesto del Sr. MacEntyre puntas de San Gregorio" directive at bottom, stamp with trace of light peripheral toned spots and cover with vertical file fold thru stampFINE. ONE OF ONLY 13 COVERS RECORDED WITH THE 1856 80-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE. THIS IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE KNOWN ORIGINATING OUTSIDE OF URUGUAY AND IS A PARTICULARLY EARLY USE A MONTH AFTER ISSUANCE.
This cover was carried privately from Buenos Aires (without stamp) to Montevideo where the 80c was applied to pay the double weight letter rate. From there, it was carried on the stagecoach route via Santa Lucia, San Jose, and ultimately to Rosario. Then it was given to forwarder Diego MacEntyre (per the endorsement) for onwards transmission to recipient.

ONLY 13 COVERS WITH THE 1856 80-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE ARE RECORDED.

Position 17, large margin at right, other sides mostly clear of design but into frameline except a small nick at top, fresh color in this subtle shade, applied to folded letter datelined Montevideo December 20, 1858, and addressed to Sauce, stamp with couple minor corner creases of little importanceFINE. A RARE DOUBLE-RATE COVER WITH THE 1856 80-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE IN THE EMERALD GREEN SHADE. ONLY 13 80-CENTAVOS COVERS ARE RECORDED, WITH THIS AS THE ONLY EXAMPLE KNOWN IN THIS SHADE.
