Sale 1279, Lot 26, 1856 Diligencia Issue - 60 CentavosURUGUAY, 1856, 60c Pale Blue (1c). Position 9, lovely pastel color in this distinctive shade, mostly large margins all around including portion of adjoining stamp at top to just touching outer frameline in a couple places, affixed to folded letter datelined Montevideo April 10, 1858, and addressed to Minas

VERY FINE. A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE 1856 60-CENTAVOS IN THE PALE OR "MILKY" BLUE SHADE. ONLY THREE COVERS WITH THIS SHADE ARE RECORDED.

The "Diligencia" issues are incredibly scarce with margins of this size. Due to the extremely close placement of the setting, examples are often cut into the design on at least one side. This example, while touching the outer frameline at points, is completely clear of the design.

Our census of Scott 1 covers, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/uruguay/scott/1, contains 37 covers comprising all No. 1's regardless of shade. Only three examples are recorded in this specific Milky Blue shade (nos. 1c-COV-08, 1c-COV-09, and 1c-COV-19).

Census no. 1c-COV-19. Ex Hoffmann, Jewell, and Diaz. With 1980 Diaz and 2008 Rocha certificates.
