URUGUAY, 1856, 60c Blue (1). Complete plate reconstruction of each of the 35 positions, different shades from Blue to Indigo, Positions 3 and 16 with sheet margin, Positions 27-28 showing the "big crack" in the plate (most easily seen on Position 28), plus the various other small hairline flaws which distinguish the positions of the three first "Diligencia values", typical plating flaws to be expected such as lightened pen cancels and thins but not detractingA FINE APPEARING COMPLETE PLATE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE 60-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA". AN EXCEPTIONALLY IMPORTANT GROUP FOR ANY SERIOUS COLLECTOR OF THE ISSUE AND UNLIKELY MORE THAN TWO OR THREE RECONSTRUCTIONS EXIST.

Position 23, large top and right margins including portion of adjoining framelines, other sides ample to touching design, tied by manuscript "X" cancel on folded letter datelined Montevideo October 14, 1856, and addressed to San Jose via the Santa Lucia relay stationVERY FINE COVER WITH THE 1856 60-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE. THIS IS THE EARLIEST RECORDED USE OF ANY URUGUAYAN ADHESIVE ON COVER -- USED ONLY TWO WEEKS AFTER THE ISSUANCE OF THE "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE ON OCTOBER 1, 1856. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEMS OF URUGUAYAN PHILATELY.

A SPECTACULAR USE OF THE 1856 60-CENTAVOS AND THE ONLY RECORDED "DILIGENCIA" COVER ORIGINATING IN BRAZIL.

THIS IS ONE OF ONLY SIX COVERS RECORDED WITH THE 60-CENTAVOS "DILIGENCIA" ISSUE IN THE DISTINCTIVE DEEP BLUE SHADE.

ONLY SIX COVERS ARE RECORDED WITH THIS SHADE.

Position 9, lovely pastel color in this distinctive shade, mostly large margins all around including portion of adjoining stamp at top to just touching outer frameline in a couple places, affixed to folded letter datelined Montevideo April 10, 1858, and addressed to MinasVERY FINE. A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE 1856 60-CENTAVOS IN THE PALE OR "MILKY" BLUE SHADE. ONLY THREE COVERS WITH THIS SHADE ARE RECORDED.
The "Diligencia" issues are incredibly scarce with margins of this size. Due to the extremely close placement of the setting, examples are often cut into the design on at least one side. This example, while touching the outer frameline at points, is completely clear of the design.
