The UPSS Catalog records only three unused examples of this entire. There is no mention of any existing as either a cut square or a full corner.

Sep. 3" (1884) circular datestamp and cork duplex cancel, the indicia just barely cancelled, with First National Bank of Geneva corner card and addressed to Buffalo N.Y., Sep. 3 1884 receiving backstamp

VERY FINE. THE 1883 2-CENT RED ON FAWN, SCOTT U242, WHICH IS ONLY KNOWN USED, IS ONE OF THE GREAT UNITED STATES POSTAL STATIONERY RARITIES. ONLY TWO ENTIRES ARE RECORDED.

The distinguishing feature of Die 76 is the presence of three and one-half links over the left two. Only two used entires, both with the First National Bank of Geneva corner card, and perhaps three or four used cut squares are known. The other recorded used entire was part of the "Scarsdale" collection (Sale 1039, lot 152) and is now part of an important private postal stationery collection.

EXTREMELY FINE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE DIE 78 2-CENT ROUND "O" IN "TWO" RED ON AMBER ENTIRE. ONLY SIX EXAMPLES ARE RECORDED.

The UPSS Catalog records only six mint entires, two of which have a Wells Fargo & Co. frank -- the one offered here and one other with Chinese writing on front and back and worn. At least one of the other unused entires has a corner card return address. This fresh Wells Fargo franked example is a very choice rarity.
