5c Red Brown, Dot in "S" (1 var). Deep rich color and detailed early impression, large even margins all around, cancelled by single stroke of red crayon and also by green "Princeton N.J. Dec. 11" circular datestamp, absolutely fresh in every respectEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB 5-CENT 1847 WITH EARLY IMPRESSION, CANCELLED BY THE PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY, DATESTAMP IN GREEN.
Ex Rose and Dr. Hinrichs. With 1999 P.F. certificate as a pair on cover to Savannah Ga. (Habersham correspondence, formerly USPCS census no. 5132, the cover accompanies but not the second stamp). With 2004 and 2010 P.F. certificates as this single.
5c Red Brown (1). Large margins to clear at bottom right, cleaned-plate impression and Brown Orange shade (but certified as Red Brown), well-struck dark green boxed "5" handstamp of Princeton N.J., Extremely Fine strike of this unusual green cancel, with 1986 P.F. certificate, Scott assigns a $1,250.00 premium for a green cancel
5c Orange Brown (1b). Bright color, worn-plate impression, large margins to ample at top, clearly struck orange grid cancel, very faint small purple ink mark at top left mentioned on only the second of three P.F. certificates, Very Fine stamp with a rare true orange cancel, with 1960 and 2004 P.F. certificates as a Red Brown pair (in error), with clear 2010 P.F. certificate as this Orange Brown single
5c Red Brown (1). Full margins all around, rich color and detailed early impression, bold strike of magenta grid cancel, Very Fine and choice, a pretty stamp with a better cancel, with 2014 P.S.E. certificate (VF 80; SMQ $400.00 for standard red cancel)
5c Red Brown (1). Deep rich color and detailed early impression, full margins to ample at bottom, cancelled by boldly struck black 10-bar rimless grid of Brunswick Me., fresh in every respect, perfect strike on a Very Fine and choice stamp, with 2009 P.F. certificate

AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF AN 1847 ISSUE STAMP WITH A SAN FRANCISCO TOWN DATESTAMP. SUPPLIES OF THE 1847 ISSUE WERE NOT SENT TO POST OFFICES ON THE WEST COAST.
Since the 1847 Issue was never supplied to post offices on the West Coast, only stamps that were carried to San Francisco by a private individual have California origin datestamps.

5c Red Brown (1). Large margins, cleaned-plate impression, tied by black "New-York Apr. 19" circular datestamp on small piece, this and other markings in black have been thought to indicate a demonetized use, but they could be a pre-July 1851 use on mail to California, Extremely Fine, ex Stollnitz, Saadi, Gross and from our 1992 Rarities sale, with 1992 and 2013 P.F. certificates, both stating demonetized use
