5c Yellow Brown (205). Tied by bold strike of purple "U.S. Postal Agency * Tientsin * 26 May 88" double-oval datestamp on cover to Mrs. William P. Aiken in Rutland, Vermont, clear strike of purple "U.S. Postal Agency * Shanghai * 31 May 88" double-oval datestamp, magenta "San Francisco Cal. Pd. All Jun. 24" circular datestamp, slightly reduced at leftEXTREMELY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING COVER BEARING A SUPERB STRIKE OF THE RARE U.S. POSTAL AGENCY AT TIENTSIN MARKING.
The Tientsin oval is found as a transit marking on the backs of covers passing through the U.S. Postal Agency and as an origin marking on the front--the usage as an origin marking is far more desirable and scarcer. This is one of the finest strikes and covers known to us.
