Sale 1270, Lot 2523, St. Kitts-Nevis thru Southern RhodesiaSOUTHERN RHODESIA, 1932, 3p Dark Blue, Vertical Pair, Imperforate Horizontally (32a; SG 30a). Block of four with selvage at right consisting of two pairs of the error, original gum, two light hinge marks at top right and bottom left corners, deep rich color

VERY FINE AND CHOICE BLOCK OF FOUR CONTAINING TWO ERROR PAIRS OF THE 1932 3-PENCE VICTORIA FALLS IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY. AN IMMENSELY RARE AND STUNNING SHOWPIECE OF BRITISH SOUTHERN AFRICA OF WHICH ONLY ONE SHEET IS KNOWN.

A single sheet of 60 was discovered in Salisbury. It is believed that the sheet was initially broken down by the well-known dealer Tom Allen. According to the informative article written in the Rhodesian Philatelist No. 35, two used pairs have been recorded with a questionable third possible, leaving 54-56 mint stamps possible. The article records one block of six, five blocks of four, and eleven pairs. Many of these have been off the market for decades. It is unknown whether any reside in the Royal Collection.

Ex Clapham. With 2017 R.P.S. certificate. Catalogued as two pairs. Scott $34,000.00. SG £40,000
