Horizontal strip of four, disturbed original gum, strong color, Fine-Very Fine, of particularly interest are the size of the perf holes, while they are uniformly Perf 14 vertically, the size varies on the horizontal perfs, even on the same stamp, this phenomenon occurs on the 1c and 2c Red Revenue stamp, as well as other stamps of the same time period printed by Waterlow, Scott $2,100.00 as four singles

Sale 1270, Lot 2628, China thru DenmarkCHINA, 1898 Japan Combination Cover. Printed matter cover (endorsed "50 Dec. B's" at bottom left) sent from Foochow to Connecticut, incorrectly franked with 1c and 2c I.C.P. (Scott 87, 88) tied by Jan. 17 brown Foochow large dollar circular datestamp, the insufficient postage was noted at the Foochow post office, where 5c and 10c I.C.P. (Scott 90, 91) were applied and tied by brown pa-kua cancels, which paid the 18c sextuple-weight for foreign printed matter, sent to the Japanese post office in Shanghai, where 4c (two) and 10c New Kobans (Scott 77, 79) were tied by Jan. 22 I.S.P.O. postmarks, cover with vertical file fold not affecting stamps or markings, some other faults (mostly edge wear)

FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE AND PROBABLY UNIQUE COMBINATION FRANKING OF 18-CENTS (CHINA) AND 18-SEN (JAPAN).

There are no postal markings on the reverse, but there are clear indentations from a cord used to attach something to the cover. Any additional transit or receiving postmarks would have been applied to the attached item.
