VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE SO-CALLED BOY SCOUT PRIVATE COIL, USED ON A COVER FROM THE BOY SCOUTS OFFICE IN NEW YORK. A PHENOMENAL RARITY -- THIS IS THE FIRST ON COVER WE HAVE OFFERED SINCE KEEPING COMPUTERIZED RECORDS.

These privately perforated coils were produced for use on mailings by the Boy Scouts of America and are only known with the New York precancel. Unlisted in Scott.

Sale 1266, Lot 2336, Boy Scout, Covel and Others1c Green, 2c Carmine, Ty. I, Kansas City Roulettes (408 var, 409 var). Two exhibit pages containing four plate blocks of 1c and four plate blocks of 2c, one from each position, the 1c with plate nos. 6041 (top), 6013 (right and bottom) and 6018 (left), the 2c is a set of all four positions from plate 6491, original gum, Very Fine, a rare set of plate blocks of this officially sanctioned private perforation. In December 1914, the Kansas City post office had an oversupply of imperforate stamps, originally intended for vending machines. The supply of stamps was rouletted with women's dressmaking tracing wheels, and official approval for their release was given by Washington.
