More than 50 used stamps plus a few covers, wonderful range of better cancels including "mummer", Leominster "stovepipe", letters, negative numeral, red "coffin" (open to interpretation), Masonic square and compass plus one on cover, faces, heart, numerous stars, shields, also lots of geometrics including in color, some flaws no doubt will be found in such a group but many Very Fine strikes are present in this valuable group, several certificates accompany

Choice group of 21 used stamps and four covers, nice range of blue and red cancels plus a couple purple, the blues include letter, fiscal, Baltimore foreign mail, carrier and others, three covers including a circular and one used with 1c Bank Note, red include a range of shades to a dark red -- more like magenta, one with Bremen transit, cover with 1c Bank Note, a few flaws to be found in such an assemblage but overall fresh stamps with Very Fine strikes, several P.F. certificates accompany, Scott value more than $3,300.00

Sale 1264, Lot 388, Balance Lots2c Brown, Numerals, Letters & "Paid" Cancels (113). More than 20 used stamps plus six covers, wonderful range of cancels including numerals with one cover stamp tied by "1870" cancel of Watkins N.Y., another with both stamps cancelled by numeral "3", letters include blue "B" of Brooklyn N.Y. on a cover, "C" Philadelphia carrier tying stamp to a large Valentine (ex Kuphal), others both negative and positive with a nice range, one pair with large blue "V" and red cancels, finally a few "Paid", a couple small flaws may be found but overall this is a Fine-Very Fine and desirable assemblage of hard-to-find cancels, two P.F. certificates accompany

Outstanding group of 26 covers, all with at least a corner card and several illustrated, better including illustrated steel saws design, "Christian Radical" building design (we are not sure what that was), some interesting corner cards including dealer in silver plated coffin and casket trimmings, couple U.S. Internal Revenue, Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., lumber, ground rock salt, hatters and furriers, Detroit & Cleveland Steamboat Line, photography, literature and many others, mostly franked with single 2c for circular rate but a number bearing two 2c stamps or other stamps in combination, a few flaws to be expected as usual in a collection of this nature, Very Fine and desirable group

Sale 1264, Lot 392, Balance Lots2c Brown, Printed-Matter Rate Wrapper Uses (113). Seven wrappers bearing single 2c stamps, range of sizes including one oversized with printed "Floral Guide" from Rochester N.Y., another with a complete booklet enclosure with illustrated cover and "A Recipe for the Cure of Consumption" (tuberculosis), others for nurseries catalog, Trenton N.J. "True American" newspaper, etc., a bit rough condition as these normally come considering how they were used, Fine appearance and rare, Stephen Rose records only about 25 2c 1869 Pictorial wrapper uses -- the majority are contained in this sale

2c Brown, Cover Balance (113). Balance of the postal history portion of the Rose collection, 36 covers, all but one are domestic uses, one foreign use with a 2c pair and a 3c Bank Note to Germany, the domestic show a very wide range of uses and frankings with many attractive covers, combinations with 1c or 3c 1869, some 1861-1868 stamp combinations and various 1870 Bank Note combinations as well, carrier and forwarding, late use (1888), large Valentine, one oversize cover with nine 2c stamps including a strip of five (faults), another with 10c 1861, lots of others, mixed condition with some stamp and cover flaws to be expected, overall Fine and useful balance
