Sale 1270, Lot 2622, Austria thru BrazilBRAZIL, 1928, 1,500r on 1,300r, Cliche in Plate of 1,000r on 1,300r Varig Air Post. Horizontal strip of three, middle stamp with 1,500r surcharge instead of 1,000r, neat Varig cancels, deep color

VERY FINE. ONLY 50 STAMPS RECEIVED THE SURCHARGE ERROR. ACCORDING TO WILLIAM KRIEBEL'S EXHIBIT, THIS IS ONE OF JUST THREE RECORDED USED EXAMPLES.

50 1,500r stamps were printed in the plate of the 1,000r stamp. However, if a single error was separated from the rest of the surrounding stamps, it would be impossible to distinguish it from the ordinary 1,500r on 1,300r surcharge. Therefore, they must be collected in se-tenant form. It is probably safe to say some were separated either when used or before the error was discovered. Used are particularly difficult to come by, though Scott assigns the same value to unused and used.

Scott $3,750.00
