EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN EXCEPTIONALLY CHOICE USED EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT 1870 NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY H GRILL, GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY THE P.F. AND P.S.A.G. THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
With 2021 P.S.A.G. (98J) and 2021 P.F. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo). This is the highest grade awarded by the P.F. By way of comparison the highest grade awarded by P.S.E. is a 98.


EXTREMELY FINE GEM ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 2-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY GRILLED ISSUE.
With copy of 2016 P.F. certificate for a margin block of six (top right stamp). With 2022 P.F. certificate as this single (XF-Superb 95). This is the highest grade awarded by the P.F. and it is equaled by no others. By way of comparison, the highest grade in the P.S.E. Population Report is also a single example at 95.

Our census of Scott 168 contains 62 examples. Many have perfs scissors-trimmed on at least one side and many have perforations into the design.

VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFULLY CENTERED SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1875 CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE COMPANY SPECIAL PRINTING.
Our census of Scott 172 contains 39 examples. Most are scissors-separated into the perforations on at least one side. Of the eleven copies with full perforations, most have either pulled perforations or are not centered, limiting their desirability. The example offered here, with wide margins, has better centering than most.

Our census of Scott 177 contains 48 examples, including one in the Miller collection owned by The New York Public Library, leaving 47 available to collectors. Only 17 have perforations intact on all four sides, and of these only nine are confirmed as sound. Many have poor centering.

Almost half have faults (mostly thins, which are endemic to this soft porous paper). Of the sound examples, nearly all are centered to top or one side.
