Sale 1267, Lot 2503, 1853-1855 Nesbitt Issue (Scott U1-U18)3c Red on White entire, Die 2 (U3; UPSS 4). Size 2, knife 2, watermark 1, UPSS Type 3 die, unused, bright and fresh with just a small faint waterstaining spot at top left mentioned for accuracy but immaterial

VERY FINE. ONE OF TWO RECORDED MINT EXAMPLES OF THE 3-CENT RED ON WHITE DIE 2 NESBITT ENTIRE IN THIS SIZE -- UPSS NO. 4. A GREAT RARITY.

The UPSS Catalog records two mint entires of this issue in the small size 2 envelope. This is the only example of any unused Scott U3 entire we have offered since keeping computerized records -- in this size 2 or in the larger size 7 envelope. The "Saddleback" and "Scarsdale" collections did not contain any mint examples of Scott U3.

UPSS values this No. 4 at $6,000.00, vs. Nos. 5 and 6 at $3,500.00 (for size 7 envelope, which is also very rare). Scott value is without regard to the envelope size

Sale 1267, Lot 2504, 1853-1855 Nesbitt Issue (Scott U1-U18)3c Red on Buff entire, Die 2 (U4; UPSS 6A). Size 7, knife 20, watermark 1, UPSS Type 3 die, unused, with red Nesbitt seal on backflap, rich color, light bends and small and light soiling spots at bottom left

VERY FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE MINT EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT RED ON BUFF DIE 2 ENTIRE WITH THE NESBITT SEAL.

The UPSS Catalog records only one mint entire of No. 6A, but Porter Venn recorded three (one in poor condition and one with sealed tears which is ex "Saddleback"). This is the finest condition example by far.

Ex Floyd.

Sale 1267, Lot 2505, 1853-1855 Nesbitt Issue (Scott U1-U18)3c Red on White entire, Die 3 (U5; UPSS 8). Size 7, knife 20, watermark 1, UPSS Type 2 die, unused, brilliant color, light creasing and small surface scuffs not affecting embossed stamp, portion of backflap separated and hinge-rejoined

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS MINT DIE 3 3-CENT RED ON WHITE NESBITT ENTIRE, SCOTT U5, IS ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED. ONE OF THE GREAT RARITIES OF POSTAL STATIONERY COLLECTING.

The UPSS Catalog records only two examples of No. 8 (Scott U5), both with faults. Unlike most other issues, UPSS No. 8 is the only number under the Scott U5 umbrella.

Ex "Saddleback". With 2007 P.F. certificate
