Despite the similarity in catalogue values for original gum examples between the Bright Red Violet (Scott 3; SG 5) and Dull Violet (4; SG 6), such as the stamp offered here, the Dull Violet is excruciatingly more difficult to acquire, especially so in such Gem quality. After a careful review of some of the finest collections of New Brunswick formed, the Dull Violet is noticeably missing from most collections or is collected as with no gum or even used.
