Block of four and strip of three, mostly huge margins all around, ample at bottom right of strip, all cancelled and tied by five strikes of "Annullato" boxed handstamp with red Naples Jan. 5, 1861 despatch circular datestamp at right on folded cover to Messina, clearly struck red "Tassa per affrancatura insufficiente" handstamp at bottom with manuscript "3" for postage due as rate was 10g, cover missing side flap and some sensible reinforcement along folds

EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLE USE OF A BLOCK AND STRIP OF THREE OF THE 1858 ONE-GRANA ON UNDERPAID COVER TO MESSINA.

Horizontal strip of three with right stamp bisected diagonally leaving the top left half, other margins mostly large to ample all around, tied across the cut by two strikes of "Argenta" straightline cancel on reverse of 1859 folded letter to Ferrara, Ferrara Nov. 15, 1859 arrival datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLE AND EXCEPTIONALLY RARE BISECT OF THE -1/2-BAJOCCHI USED WITH TWO NORMAL STAMPS TO MAKE UP THE 5-CENTS RATE. ONLY A FEW ARE THOUGHT TO EXIST.

Beginning in 1859, the calculation of bajocchi to centesimi was -1/2b to 2c. To make up the 5c rate, this cover used two -1/2b (4c) plus the bisect (as -1/4b or 1c). A major Italian States bisect rarity which is missing from even the most advanced collections.
