Faulty stamp tied by blurry strike of Warrington Fla.
circular datestamp on cover to Woodville Miss. with red and blue 11-Star Confederate Flag, "Semper Paratus" and "Quitman Light Artillery, of Natchez. Capt. R.T. English." Patriotic
design (F11-5, Slogan 67), Very Fine appearance despite the stamp faults and also very rare, Semper Paratus is a Latin phrase meaning "Always Ready" (it is currently used as the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard), the Quitman Light Artillery was an independent battery mustered into service on April 9, 1861, made up of men from Adams County, Mississippi, R. T. English was at first listed as 3rd lieutenant of the battery, but by November 1861 he had evidently risen to captain, ex Bischel, with 1983 P.F. certificate
