VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-SHILLING WAR TAX WITH INKED OVERPRINT IMPRESSION IN SELVAGE AT LEFT. ONLY TWELVE EXAMPLES ARE RECORDED.
In order to meet demand for these overprints, even blocks and part sheets were overprinted. This caused some selvage overprinted examples to occur. Heijtz £3,600

VERY FINE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM PAIR OF THE ONE-PENNY WAR TAX WITH DOUBLE OVERPRINT. ONLY 58 EXAMPLES WERE PRINTED FROM ONE PANE.
Only one pane of 60 was printed with the double overprint. Due to a foldover affecting two stamps at the bottom left of the sheet, two examples remained without the second overprint. See Lot 3187 in this sale for the unique block of twelve showing the foldover.
With undated B.P.A. certificate. Catalogued as singles. Scott $8,500.00. SG £9,000. Heijtz £7,000

VERY FINE. A TRULY REMARKABLE AND UNIQUE SHOWPIECE ITEM OF THE ONE-PENNY WAR TAX WITH DOUBLE OVERPRINT. ONLY ONE SHEET WAS PRINTED WITH THE DOUBLE OVERPRINT LEAVING ONLY 58 EXAMPLES POSSIBLE, THIS MULTIPLE CONTAINING TEN OF THOSE EXAMPLES.
This magnificent block was housed in the Chancery Lane Safe Deposit vaults in London during World War II. During the heavy aerial bombardments of September 1940, water from firefighters crept into the underground vault, causing this block to lose its gum. This block is mentioned in Stanley Gibbons in the footnote below the War Tax Issue.
Ex Marquess of Bute and Stanley. Catalogued as ten original gum singles. Scott $42,500.00. SG £45,000. Heijtz £35,000

FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND VISUAL PARTIALLY OVERPRINTED ERROR ON THE ONE-SHILLING WAR TAX OVERPRINT.
This error occured when a sheet of the 1sh stamps was folded during the overprinting process. Ex Lovibond, Neild, and Palmer. Heijtz £7,200

FINE. A RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED BLOCK OF THE ONE-SHILLING BROWN ON THICK GRAYISH PAPER WITH THE DOUBLE OVERPRINT, ONE ALBINO. ONLY ONE PANE OF 60 WAS OVERPRINTED.
The albino impression was first applied on sheets, followed by an inked impression. The intent of this was for proper positioning of the overprint. The two offset strikes on reverse was caused by the albino impression (lighter strike) and then the inked strike (stronger strike).
Scott and SG as hinged singles. Scott $8,000.00. SG £7,600. Heijtz £6,240 as singles
