EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 1851 ONE-SHILLING BRIGHT RED VIOLET. ONE OF THE FINEST EXISTING EXAMPLES OF THIS CLASSIC NEW BRUNSWICK RARITY. THE EPITOME OF GEM QUALITY.

After a careful review of major named sales containing British North America, many of the examples offered are without gum. Those that have original gum, do not match the overall quality of the example offered here, as they either have faults or margins touching.

Original gum, minor h.r., large to full margins all around, sumptuous color in the true Dull Violet shade, proof-like impression on immaculate paper

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN INCOMPARABLE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1851 ONE-SHILLING IN THE DULL VIOLET SHADE. EASILY THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SCARSDALE COLLECTION DESTINED FOR A COLLECTION OF THE FINEST QUALITY.

Despite the similarity in catalogue values for original gum examples between the Bright Red Violet (Scott 3; SG 5) and Dull Violet (4; SG 6), such as the stamp offered here, the Dull Violet is excruciatingly more difficult to acquire, especially so in such Gem quality. After a careful review of some of the finest collections of New Brunswick formed, the Dull Violet is noticeably missing from most collections or is collected as with no gum or even used.

Ex Chapin and Gross. Signed A. Diena. With 2009 P.F. certificate. Scott $35,000.00. SG £25,000. Unitrade C$70,000.00
