Sale 1221, Lot 1537, 1922 and Later Issues25c Yellow Green, Vertical Pair, Imperforate Horizontally (568b). Vertical pair with selvage at right, top stamp h.r., choice centering for this difficult error

VERY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 25-CENT 1922 ISSUE IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY.

According to United States Stamps 1922-26 by Gary Griffith, this error was discovered in 1927 in Georgia. In Mekeel's Weekly Stamp News, Sep. 5, 1927, noted dealer Philip H. Ward stated that "the pane was normal with this small corner receiving the vertical perforation only", indicating that only part of the pane contained the error. Auction records seem to support this. Apart from the unique plate number block offered in our 2013 Rarities sale and a strip of three with right selvage offered by us in 2016, every example found using Power Search has perfs touching the design at left.

Ex Liberman. With 1990 P.F. certificate
