VERY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 ONE-SIXTH BARREL ISSUE IN THE YELLOW OCHRE SHADE.

Only six examples of this shade are recorded in the Priester census, and this is the only example we have offered since keeping computerized records. This brewery is in Morrisania N.Y., which is now part of the Bronx. It later became the David Mayer's Centennial Lager Bier Brewery, which burned down in 1881, was rebuilt, and burned again in 1884.

Heurich Brewing Co., which was at one time the largest brewer in Washington D.C., its owner was also the largest landowner in Washington D.C. (aside from the Federal government), his brewery burned down three times, prompting him to build both a fireproof brewery and mansion in 1894, ex "Scarsdale" and Inman, with 2012 P.F. certificate

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1898 TYPE D PROVISIONAL SURCHARGE ON THE ONE-THIRD BARREL. ONLY TWO ARE RECORDED IN THE PRIESTER CENSUS.

The other recorded example, also with Type 50 surcharge, was offered as lot 658 in the November 8, 1989 Christie's auction of the Weill Brothers stock.

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE 1898 ONE-THIRD BARREL UNSURCHARGED ISSUE IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL BEER STAMP ISSUES. ONLY TWO COPIES ARE RECORDED BY PRIESTER.

The other example was offered in our 2006 sale of the Tolman collection, and has margins in at top and bottom. Both stamps have faults.
