EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE RARE E. W. HOYT & CO. IMPERFORATE ONE-CENT BLACK ISSUE ON PINK PAPER. ONE OF THE FINEST AVAILBLE. ONLY EIGHT ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS.
The Aldrich book records only 8 examples, which we assume includes the block of four offered in the Joyce sale. That would leave only four singles available to collectors.
With 2020 P.F. certificate.
EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE E. W. HOYT & CO. IMPERFORATE 4-CENT ISSUE ON SILK PAPER. THE FINEST WE HAVE OFFERED.
The imperforate on silk paper is the rarest of the 4c Hoyt issues, with only nine recorded in the Aldrich book. Two-thirds of those recorded have faults. The Joyce sale contained a block of four, so perhaps only five singles are available to collectors. We have offered only two others since keeping computerized records. Both had light creases and neither were as well-margined as this example.
With 1997 P.F. certificate
EXTREMELY FINE. AN ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE EXAMPLE OF THE E. W. HOYT & CO. 4-CENT IMPERFORATE ISSUE ON WATERMARKED PAPER. ONE OF THE FINEST AVAILABLE.
This is the finest example we have offered at auction. Every previously offered copy also has creases -- usually more severe than on this example. This stamp possesses the largest and most balanced margins of any we have sold. The Aldrich census records 18 and notes 11 with faults (though the number of faulty is almost certainly higher).
With 2020 P.F. certificate.
VERY FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE GEORGE W. LAIRD 3-CENT DIE CUT ON OLD PAPER. ONLY TEN ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS.
This is one of the most appealing of the seven we have offered since keeping computerized records. Every example has multiple faults, but most also have margins that cut into the design, and/or have faults visible on the face. With 2004 P.F. certificate
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AMONG THE FINEST AVAILABLE EXAMPLES OF THE RARE GEORGE W. LAIRD 3-CENT DIE CUT ISSUE ON PINK PAPER. JUST NINE ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS.
We have sold only one other sound full-margined copy. With 1999 P.F. certificate
FINE. A HIGHLY DESIRABLE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE RARE WOODWORTH & SON 2-CENT ON PINK PAPER. THIS IS THE ONLY FAULT-FREE COPY WE HAVE OFFERED.
The Aldrich book lists only nine, over half of which have faults. Power Search shows four others, all with faults. One is well-centered (but thinned and with several short perfs), the other three have the perfs cutting into the design at bottom.
EASILY THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF ITS KIND WE HAVE EVER OFFERED. AN IDEAL FOUNDATION FOR A SERIOUS COLLECTION OF THESE FASCINATING STAMPS.
While (mostly small) faults are expected on many stamps, as is characteristic of these issues, the overall condition is much better than typically encountered.
