(Camp before Alexandria, Egypt to St. John, New Brunswick, Jul. 27, 1801). Folded letter with “Camp before Alexandria in Egypt--27th July 1801” filing note and addressed to Lieut. Col. Beverley Robinson (Jr.), St. John, New Brunswick, carried privately to London with forwarder’s notation on bottom flap dated Dec. 4, 1801, red London “Paid Dec. 4, 1801” circular datestamp, neat “HALIFAX/MAR 15 802” two-line datestamp (Jephcott 8, MacDonald 9) in transit and “St. John, N*B*/March 28, 1802” two-line datestamp (Jephcott 13) on arrival, each affected by wax seal removal, the latter struck over the flap, rated “3/8” to Halifax and “1N6 (+) For’d 4 (=) 1N10” collect for internal delivery, small parts of top flap missing, otherwise Fine, a remarkable incoming letter from Egypt to New Brunswick, written shortly before the the Siege of Alexandria in August-September 1801, which resulted in the defeat of the French forces in Egypt, this letter arrived on the same ship as lot 2157
