Sale Number 1217, Lot Number 749, 1c-3c 1857-60 Issue (Scott 18-26A)1c Blue, Ty. I (18), 1c Blue, Ty. I (18)1c Blue, Ty. I (18). Original gum, lightly hinged, intense color, almost perfectly centered with wide margins at sides and clearly showing the characteristics of the type

Ex "Vineyard". With 1984, 1999, and 2004 P.F. certificates. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, XF 90; SMQ $5,750.00). This is one of only seven unused examples to achieve this grade, with just one higher (Mint N.H. at 95)

Sale Number 1217, Lot Number 750, 1c-3c 1857-60 Issue (Scott 18-26A)1c Blue, Ty. Ia (19), 1c Blue, Ty. Ia (19)1c Blue, Ty. Ia (19). Position 99R4, deep rich color on bright paper, choice centering top to bottom for this difficult issue

FRESH AND FINE. A SCARCE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 PERFORATED ONE-CENT TYPE Ia.

Type Ia was produced by only 18 of the 20 bottom-row positions on Plate 4. Although Plate 4 was designed with sufficient space to accommodate perforations, the height of the top row and bottom row positions resulted in the perforations often cutting into the design at either top or bottom. For this reason, stamps from the bottom row of Plate 4 with perforations slightly into the design are still desirable.

With 1975 P.F. certificate

Sale Number 1217, Lot Number 751, 1c-3c 1857-60 Issue (Scott 18-26A)1c Blue, Ty. II (20), 1c Blue, Ty. II (20)1c Blue, Ty. II (20). Plate 2, horizontal strip of three with left sheet selvage, unused (no gum), rich color, centering and margins are quite attractive for this tightly spaced issue, left stamp faulty with a large tear and creases, center and right stamps with some blunted perfs at top, right stamp couple tiny toned spots, perf separations between left and center stamps, otherwise Very Fine, with 1979 P.F. certificate mentioning only a faint diagonal crease, Scott Retail for original-gum strip of three is $3,000.00, for no-gum singles

Sale Number 1217, Lot Number 752, 1c-3c 1857-60 Issue (Scott 18-26A)1c Blue, Ty. II (20), 1c Blue, Ty. II (20)1c Blue, Ty. II (20). Position 10R4, one of the top-row Plate 4 positions showing the complete design at top and the only double transfer on Plate 4, original gum, well-centered, deep rich color and fine impression

VERY FINE AND CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT TYPE II FROM THE TOP ROW OF PLATE FOUR -- SHOWING THE COMPLETE DESIGN AT TOP AND A DOUBLE TRANSFER.

Ashbrook states "The lone double transfer, 10R4, is a very rare stamp, in fact, it ranks among the rarest of double transfers of the one cent 1851-1857. I have seen very few copies, and only one pair, containing 10R4." (Neinken book, p. 270).

Ex Zoellner. With 1981 P.F. certificate stating "sweated o.g." -- a totally unwarranted comment about the pristine original gum on this stamp. Scott Retail for Position 10R4

Ia, from bottom row) describes this characteristic, but it is not noted after No. 20 from the top row of Plate 4, this example is offered to the market for the first time since the consignor purchased it in a 1965 Siegel sale
