Sale Number 1212, Lot Number 65, 1902-08 Issues5c Blue, Coil (317), 5c Blue, Coil (317)5c Blue, Coil (317). Mint N.H., intense shade and impression on crisp paper, beautifully centered with wide and balanced margins, fresh and pristine

EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE CENTERED AND SOUND MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1908 5-CENT VERTICAL COIL, SCOTT 317.

The 5c 1908 Coil stamps, which were stripped by hand, are almost always centered to one side. The example offered here, with wide margins on both sides, is a rarity for the issue. Factoring in its Mint Never-Hinged gum, this stamp is certainly one of the finest examples of the issue.

With 1958 P.F. certificate for a pair, issued to Raymond H. Weill. With 2017 P.S.E. certificate (VF-XF 85; unpriced in SMQ in Mint N.H. condition). This is the only Mint N.H. example contained in the P.S.E. Population Report

Sale Number 1212, Lot Number 67, 1902-08 Issues1c Blue Green, Coil (318), 1c Blue Green, Coil (318)1c Blue Green, Coil (318). Lightly hinged, unusually intense shade, centered to right but just a single perf touches the design, fresh and Fine, a collectible sound example of this coil rarity, with 1996 P.F. (for a strip of three) and 2014 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, VG 50; SMQ $1,350.00), an unjustifiably harsh grade in our opinion for this Fine coil stamp

FINE AND RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT LOUISIANA PURCHASE IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY.

It is believed that only one pane of 50 was found in Cleveland Ohio. This intact pane was originally sold to A.W. Weigel of the Ohio Stamp Co. and very shortly thereafter became part of the George H. Worthington collection. After the Worthington sale it was broken into pairs and blocks of four, including the unique plate block offered in our sale of the William H. Gross Multiples Collection (Sale 1200, lot 193). Power Search lists very few of these rarities -- we have offered only a handful of others since 1990.
