Bold strike of red circular datestamp on 1852 cover to Mr. William Spencer in New London Conn., "San Francisco Cal. 15 Jun." circular datestamp, with original 1852-dated contents with letter written in two directions to maximize content while minimizing weight (handwritten transcript accompanies), fascinating contents includes 130-day trip to Hawaii etc., small piece out at bottom left, some edgewear and soiling, still Very Fine, carried on the Hawaiian schooner Maria, which departed Honolulu May 12 with a stop at Lahaina, it arrived in San Francisco May 15
