FINE AND RARE. ONLY TWO USED EXAMPLES OF THE 3-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL WITHOUT GRILL ARE RECORDED ON ORDINARY PAPER. A GREAT RARITY OF THE ISSUE.

A footnote in Scott Catalogue states that two ungrilled examples are recorded on normal paper: the example offered here and one on cover which was lifted to confirm identity. Two items on gray paper without grill are also known: a strip of three on piece (ex Coulter and Natalee Grace) and a single on an advertising cover, lifted to confirm identity and hinged in place.
