EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A GORGEOUS EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-CENT PERFORATED TYPE III STAMP, WHICH CLEARLY SHOWS THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TYPE.
Due to narrow spacing on the plate, examples of this type often have the perforations cutting into the outer lines at either top or bottom or both. The example offered here clearly presents the characteristics of the type.

VERY FINE. A STRIKING EXAMPLE OF THE 1858 5-CENT BRICK RED WITH THE NEW YORK OCEAN MAIL DATESTAMP.
This distinctive cancel is normally seen on 10c stamps used to pay the transcontinental rate. Its use on a 5c stamp, especially on the desirable Brick Red shade, is remarkable.
