Ex President Roosevelt, Lilly, 1984 Rarities sale and Livingston.
VERY FINE. AN IMPORTANT AND DESIRABLE GROUP OF SMALL DIE PROOFS OF MORE THAN 50 DIFFERENT 1923-44 COMMEMORATIVE ISSUES. THE NUCLEUS OF A COMPREHENSIVE 20TH CENTURY PROOF COLLECTION.
Several of these have between one and three examples recorded. A spreadsheet with Scott numbers and catalogue values accompanies.

VERY FINE GROUP OF THE 1934 NATIONAL PARKS ISSUE SMALL DIE PROOFS.
Dies from the 1934 National Parks Issue were used to pull both large and small die proofs. However, only four of the values are known as large die proofs so a complete set cannot be achieved. Noted essay and proof student and dealer James Lee records only one complete set of the small die proofs, offered by us in 2013 in our Sale 1044.
VERY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE SET OF SMALL DIE PROOFS FOR THE 1936-37 NAVY ISSUE.
From our 1984 Rarities sale.
VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE GROUP OF SMALL DIE PROOFS OF THE 1938 PRESIDENTIAL ISSUE. A DIFFICULT GROUP TO ASSEMBLE.
Each of these small die proofs on wove paper is the only known example in private hands. This part set was assembled by the consignor from individual proofs acquired at different times, including the dollar values from our 2006 Rarities sale (hammer $5,000 for only those three). This offering will bring the buyer to within striking distance of assembling the complete set.
VERY FINE. AN INCREDIBLY RARE COMPLETE SET OF SMALL DIE PROOFS OF THE OVERRUN COUNTRIES ISSUE. THIS IS THE ONLY SET WE HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. A RARITY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER, AND UNLISTED IN SCOTT.
In an article in the United States Specialist (Sep. 1994, pp. 410-417), Ronald A. Burns traces the history of small die proof production from the 1903 Roosevelt Albums through the 1950's. The printings after the 1914-15 Panama-Pacific sets are not well documented. This is the only set we have encountered. We have been informed that the set of Large Die Proofs has been donated to the National Postal Museum.
Ex Livingston. Unlisted in Scott.
VERY FINE. AN IMPRESSIVE GROUP OF 20TH CENTURY LARGE DIE PROOFS, INCLUDING THREE SIGNED APPROVALS.
Large die proofs from this period are rare. The 903P1 is unlisted in Scott (counted at $700.00, which is the average for those from this time period).
