Deep shade and detailed impression, choice centering, unobtrusive strike of "Providence R.I. Sep. 2, 1861" double-circle datestamp, Extremely Fine, Don Evans notes in his book on the 1c 1861 Issue (p. 33) that the Dark Blue shade is very close to Indigo shade used for the "Premiere Gravure" (Scott No. 55) and in fact he believed that this should be the formal designated color name for this shade

EXTREMELY FINE. A GORGEOUS PAIR OF THE 3-CENT 1861 ISSUE IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH THE TOP SHEET MARGIN.

The number of 3c 1861's released imperforate horizontally is not known, but they are very rare in any form. The multiples come with and without original gum. The last examples we offered were in our 2009 sale of the Alan Whitman collection.

Ex Grunin. With 1971 P.F. certificate.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1861 5-CENT BROWN YELLOW WITH AN ATTRACTIVE LIGHTLY-STRUCK RED GRID CANCELLATION.
