1912-21, Washington-Franklin Coil Waste Plate Number Study. Wallace Cleland's extensive and outstanding study of the 1c and 2c coil waste issues from 1912 through the rotary press issues of 1919 and 1921, all with plate nos. and or marginal markings, begins with 1912 1c lower right pane of 60 (one vertical row with perf separations) from the star plates specially cut for the vending machine companies (Scott 374, the pane of 60 was the leftover "waste"), continues with 1913 "COIL STAMPS" plate blocks of ten and 20 (latter showing siderographer's initials), incl. four of each for the 1c and eight blocks of ten of the 2c (Scott 425-426), upper left pane of 100 from plate 6581 -- from the area of the plate without the marginal imprint (one of two known), the vast majority of the collection concentrates on the rotary press coil waste Perf 11 x 10 issues (Scott 538 and 540), showing the variety of margin perforations (or lack thereof), inverted "S30", star plates, four plate blocks of the imperforate horizontally issues (Scott 538a and 540a), star blocks with centerlines, 1c and two 2c full panes of 170 incl. two showing the joint line inside the pane, cancelled pane of 170 showing major offset of three rows of stamps on back, also plate blocks of the Perf 11 coil waste (Scott 545-546, several Mint N.H.) incl. all three marginal marking types of both the 1c and 2c (that page alone with Scott Retail of more than $7,000.00), an outstanding and rare study that took years to assemble, Scott Retail is over $25,000.00 but the value of this study is enhanced by its completeness
