Sale 1061 — United States Stamps
Sale Date — Tuesday, 19 November, 2013
Category — 1869 Pictorial Issue (Scott 112-122a)

FINE-VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED BLOCK OF EIGHT OF THE 2-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE.
As a Power Search review shows, blocks of eight or larger of the 2c 1869 Pictorial are scarce in any original-gum condition. Large blocks containing all Mint N.H. stamps are extremely rare. We have offered a number of larger multiples in recent years, but nearly all had at least a scattering of hinged stamps breaking up possible large contiguous pieces with Mint N.H. gum. The Gordon Eubanks collection contained a block of 12 with the bottom two rows of eight stamps in Mint N.H condition. This is one of the largest blocks containing contiguous Mint N.H. stamps we have offered since keeping computerized records.
With 2013 P.F. certificate

EXTREMELY FINE GEM USED EXAMPLE OF THE 15-CENT TYPE I 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE. A SUPERB STAMP THAT MUST SURELY RANK AMONG THE FINEST EXTANT.
Ex Scarsdale. With 2004 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $4,000.00). Only four have graded higher.

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXTREMELY RARE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE WITHOUT GRILL.
Fewer than 25 examples have been certified by the Philatelic Foundation as genuine, and of those only 16 have original gum. This is the first we have offered in more than three years and the only sound example we have offered since our Whitman sale in 2009.
With 1991 and 2004 P.F. certificates
