Sale 1040 — Outstanding United States Stamps
Sale Date — Tuesday-Thursday, 26-28 March, 2013
Category — 1908-10 Issues (Scott 331-356)

VERY FINE. A RARE TOP PLATE NUMBER PLATE BLOCK OF SIX OF THE 50-CENT 1909 DOUBLE-LINE WATERMARK ISSUE, SCOTT 341.
Scott 341 was produced from only one plate, No. 4956, which had plate number blocks at top and bottom. A review using Power Search shows that most top position plate blocks have the selvage shortened to some degree -- only one other with wide top is contained in Power Search.
Top right selvage, top center and bottom left stamps with red backstamp.

FRESH AND FINE-VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE PLATE BLOCK OF THE $1.00 WASHINGTON. THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL WASHINGTON-FRANKLIN ISSUE PLATE BLOCKS.
Excluding the Bluish Paper issue, this is one of the rarest of the Washington-Franklin plate blocks. It is only known from plate number 4957. Lewis Kaufman records only seven top and four bottom plate blocks.
