EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 1868 ONE-CENT E GRILL IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT STAMPS OF THE SERIES TO OBTAIN WITH SUCH CHOICE CENTERING AND IN SUCH PRISTINE CONDITION. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST IN EXISTENCE -- THE P.S.E. HAS AWARDED THIS STAMP THE GRADE OF SUPERB 98.
When we offered this stamp for the first time in Sale 962, we had just pulled it out of an old album and felt so strongly about its condition, we sent it to P.S.E. for a graded certificate. They agreed with our assessment, awarding it the grade of Superb 98. The only other stamp to achieve this grade was offered in our sale of the Tahoe Collection and our Sale 1000.
With 1986, 2003 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $13,000.00)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE FINEST USED EXAMPLES OF THE 1868 5-CENT F GRILL IN EXISTENCE. A SUPERB STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT -- COLOR, CANCEL, STRENGTH OF GRILL, CENTERING AND PERFORATIONS.
The statement that followed the Scott 67 in the Kirke collection about the rarity of choice grades with the 5c issue due to the spacing and layout on the plate can be underscored and boldfaced for the 1868 5c F Grill. The stamp offered here defies the norm, possessing wide margins all around and a lightly struck brownish-black target cancel.
Ex Hinrichs and Scarsdale. With 1999 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $8,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only one other

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SPECTACULAR JUMBO MARGINED USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 12-CENT F GRILL WITH TWO COLORED CANCELS. A PHENOMENAL STAMP WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E.
Ex Dr. Morris. With 1994 and 2003 P.F. certificates. With 2007 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $9,000.00 as 98). This is the highest grade awarded and only one other example has achieved this grade

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 15-CENT F GRILL.
With 1980 and 2006 P.F. certificates (XF-Superb 95). With 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $3,250.00). Only two have graded higher.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 1868 24-CENT F GRILL IS RARELY OBTAINABLE IN THIS OUTSTANDING USED CONDITION. THIS STAMP, WITH SUPERB CENTERING AND A RED LEAF CANCEL, IS REMARKABLY BEAUTIFUL AND HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
The higher-denomination F Grills were produced in limited quantities and are often found either off center or with choppy perforations. This stamp is a true condition rarity and is made even more desirable by the the vivid red Leaf cancel.
With 1987 and 1996 P.F. certificates. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $10,500.00). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only three others

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THE 1868 30-CENT F GRILL IS ONE OF THE MOST CHALLENGING CLASSIC STAMPS TO FIND IN CHOICE CONDITION. THIS STAMP HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
The 30c 1861-68 Issue stamps -- Scott 71 (to a lesser extent) and Scott 100 -- rank as two of the most difficult classic U.S. stamps to find in such pristine condition. Due to narrow spacing of the plate, the 30c 1861-68's are usually found with tight margins, especially at sides. Brookman notes "Superb copies are almost non-existent".
With 2010 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $8,100.00). This is the highest grade awarded. The only other example that shares this grade was offered as part of the Natalee Grace collection (Sale 1024, lot 168)

THIS IS THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLE OF THE 1868 90-CENT F GRILL. THIS SUPERB STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE PERFECT GRADE OF GEM 100 BY P.S.E.
The 90c stamps used to make grilled issues were printed on a thick stock of paper. It is likely that sheets remaining from the pre-grill period were used and that the thinner paper introduced in 1868 had not been used for the 90c value. Two characteristics of 90c F Grill stamps are poorly punched perforations and generally poor centering.
A review of the P.S.E. Population Report statistics for the grilled issues reveals how rare this 90c stamp truly is. Only one other 1867-68 grilled stamp in any condition -- used or unused -- has achieved a grade of 100 (15c used). Even the very common 3c F Grill stamps have not had an example grade 100. To achieve this grade with the top value of the issue is remarkable.
With 1977 and 2004 P.F. certificates. With 2005 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $31,000.00 as 98). This is the highest grade awarded and no other example has achieved this grade. The next highest graded example is a 95
