VERY FINE. THIS IS THE EARLIEST EXAMPLE OF MAIL WITH A PHILIPPINES STAMP SENT TO A NON-SPANISH OVERSEAS DESTINATION.
In 1870 the Franco-Prussian War closed the port of Marseilles, the usual route of Philippines mail to Europe. After the war some mail continued to be sent via Brindisi, usually by British P & O packet via Singapore and Suez.
