Sale 997, Lot 5153, 3c 1851-56 Issue (Scott 10-11A)3c Rose Red, Ty. I (11). Huge margins all around incl. part of seven adjoining stamps, brilliant color on crisp paper, unobtrusive strike of blue cancel

EXTREMELY FINE GEM AND THE ESSENCE OF PERFECTION. THIS IS ONE OF ONLY FOUR EXAMPLES OF THE 3-CENT 1851 ISSUE TO ACHIEVE THE P.S.E. GRADE OF GEM 100 JUMBO.

Many collectors have a tendency to discount how difficult it is to find imperforate classics in such superb condition. The assumption is that there are multiples which can be split to "make" perfect singles. However, one would need a lightly-cancelled block of nine, with no wrinkles or other minor defects, to produce a single such as the one offered here.

Ex Tahoe. 1997 P.F. certificate no longer accompanies. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; SMQ $450.00 as 98, unpriced in the higher grades). Only one other example of No. 11 and two of No. 11A have achieved this perfect grade

Sale 997, Lot 5154, 3c 1851-56 Issue (Scott 10-11A)3c Dull Red, Ty. I (11). Enormous margins all around incl. sheet margin at bottom and parts of two adjoining stamps, neat "3" ms. cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2006 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90 Jumbo), P.S.E. states that it penalizes a sound stamp 15-30 points for a pen cancel, the neat "3" cancel on this stamp does not detract at all from its beauty, without the pen cancel it would have been graded 100 Jumbo
