Sale Number 996, Lot Number 3086, 1851 3c Dull Red - Used3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A), 3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A)3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A). Jumbo margins all around with at least a trace of all eight adjoining stamps, bright color, neat red circular datestamp

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS SPECTACULAR STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE ULTIMATE GRADE OF GEM 100 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- ONLY THREE OTHER EXAMPLES OF SCOTT 11 OR 11A HAVE ACHIEVED THIS GRADE TO DATE.

Many collectors have a tendency to discount how difficult it is to find imperforate classics in such superb condition. The assumption is that there are multiples which can be split to "make" perfect singles. However, one would need a lightly-cancelled block of nine, with no wrinkles or other minor defects, to produce a single such as the one offered here.

With 2010 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; SMQ $450.00 as 98, unpriced in the higher grades). Only one other example of No. 11A and two of No. 11 have achieved this perfect grade

3c 1851 Issue, Off-Cover Balance (11-11A). More than 400 stamps arranged on stock sheets, gathered by Jerry Wagshal for varieties or cancels that interested him, incl. "Gents", major plate cracks (84/94 L5L), other plate flaws, recuts, triple transfers, shade varieties, pair with interesting sawtooth perforations (P.F. certificate decline opinion), as well as a nice range of cancels with red and blue numeral "3" handstamps, "Steam 5" oval, "Paid", seven "Way", numerous town datestamps -- many in color and many on piece to preserve the full strike, a page of multiples showing pairs, strips of three and a strip of six (ex Amonette), also a few proofs, some faults as is inevitable in a group this large, but a large number of sound and attractive stamps, not the typical lower quality accumulation of an inexpensive stamp, Mr. Wagshal was well known to devote as much of his considerable interest and energy to the study of inexpensive varieties as to the study of his great rarities, this accumulation is a testament to that
