This variety was caused by a dramatic upward shift of the overprint. The "1" is split on all stamps, and "Postage Due" is omitted on the bottom five stamps of the pane.

VERY FINE-EXTREMELY FINE. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED PLATE BLOCK OF THE PHILIPPINES 1899 50-CENT UNWATERMARKED ISSUE. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE IN MINT NEVER-HINGED CONDITION AND FROM THE TOP PLATE POSITION.

In our recent auction of the Whitpain collection we sold a perfectly centered plate block of eight, which we described as the largest recorded plate block multiple. Before that auction this multiple was brought to our attention (and announced at the sale). It now becomes the largest recorded plate block.
